MCC-St. Louis was founded October 28, 1972 with a primary mission of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the gay and lesbian community of St. Louis. The St. Louis Chapter of MCC is a member of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches founded by the Reverend Troy Perry. The Metropolitan Community Church first donated copies of the monthly newsletter, The New Light, (see collection 334).
