Description

The Auckland Community Church collection contains correspondence, minutes and other ephemeral material from a non-denominational gay community Christian group in Auckland, New Zealand.

Hist/Bio Note

A group for gay Christians began meeting at Saint Matthew's-in-the-City in 1974. The assistant pastor, John Bluck, helped to initiate the group and acted as a resource person. In 1977, it affiliated with the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC), and in 1980, it separated from MCC, and again became an inter-denominational church, acting in coopertion with MCC and the local gay and lesbian Catholic group, Ascent.
