Description

The Affirmation (Gay and Lesbian Mormon) Collection contains correspondence, conference materials, flyers, programs, brochures, newsletters, and news clippings, most dealing with the Affirmation organization. Examples of local chapter newsletters come from Arizona, Las Vegas, New York, California, and Washington, D.C. There are also newsletters from the Gamofites (derived from Gay Mormon Fathers) and the Family Fellowship Organization. It includes organizational records of the national and chapter organizations. It also contains newsletters from chapters across the country. Gamofites (Gay Mormon Fathers) and Family Fellowship Organization material is also included. Materials were donated by Jay Bell in 2001 with subsequent materials donated by Hugo Olaiz in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2013.

Hist/Bio Note

Affirmation (Gay and Lesbian Mormons) was formed in 1977 to serve gay and lesbian members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church/Mormon Church). Since that time, the national organization and local chapters have organized conferences, workshops, and programs and published newsletters. Materials for the early materials in this collection were donated by the avocational LDS historian Jay Bell.
