Hist/Bio Note

International Foundation for Gender Education is a nonprofit transgender advocacy organization founded in 1987 to promote the self-definition and free expression of individual gender identity. It maintains a bookstore, publishes the periodical Transgender Tapestry, and held its first annual conference in 1988. It gives out an annual Trinity Award for service to the community. Of interest are the records of Catholic Sister Mary Elizabeth who presented at the first convention on Religious Aspects of Transexual life. Cartons 23 and 30 Are open for research. Membership and correspondence records are closed until June 1, 2040
