Description

This website contains multilingual documents, community resources, and information about the organization's mission and community programming.

Hist/Bio Note

Salaam Canada began in the early 1990s as a social circle and support group for lesbian and gay Muslims in Toronto. After significant backlash, Salaam went on brief hiatus and beginning in 2000 in a new socio-political climate, the organization relaunched as Salaam: Queer Muslim Community. In addition to monthly support group meetings in Toronto, Salaam started to provide refugee and newcomer support, host an annual Peace Iftar, and hold forums on human rights and social justice issues within LGBTQ+ and Muslim communities. On August 22, 2022, the organization formally announced its closure.
