Mel Johnson

 Elder Mel Johnson joined the Metropolitan Community Church in 1987 and has been a member of Sunrise MCC in Palmdale, California; MCC of the Redwoods in Marin County, California and MCC-San Francisco, California.

Johnson has served on several Board of Directors, as a Treasurer, Lay Delegate, on countless committees, and numerous projects and events over the years. In 1994, Mel was elected as Lay Representative for the Northwest District. He served two terms as well as three years on the Commission on the Laity Facilitating Council’s Executive Committee, and in 1999 was elected as Chair of the UFMCC USA Board of Pensions, and the Board of Elders Governance Team.

In 2001, at MCC’s General Conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Mel Johnson was elected to the Board of Elders, becoming the fourth layperson elected to that Governing Board in the denomination’s history.
